The main objectives of the Institute lie in a complex study of the World Ocean and the Russian seas based on the idea of entirety of physical, chemical, biological and geological processes observed in them, laying scientific foundations for forecasting the Earth’s climate variability, rational use of marine resources and safeguarding ecological security in the interests of stable development of mankind.

The Institute for System Programming (ISP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded on January 25, 1994, on the base of the departments of System Programming and Numerical Software of the Institute for Cybernetics Problems of the RAS. ISP RAS belongs to the Division of Mathematical Sciences of the RAS.

The Institute of Linguistics was founded in 1950 and is one of the oldest linguistic institutes in country.

СПИИ РАН

Федеральное государственное бюджетное учреждение науки Санкт-Петербургский институт информатики и автоматизации Российской академии наук организован в соответствии с Распоряжением Совмина СССР от 19.12.1977 и постановлением Президиума АН СССР от 19.01.78 на базе отдела вычислительной техники Физико-технического института им.А.Ф.Иоффе АН СССР как Ленинградский научно-исследовательский вычислительный центр АН СССР (ЛНИВЦ). В настоящее время в Северо-Западном регионе России институт является единственным научным учреждением Отделения нанотехнологий и информационных технологий РАН. Возглавляет институт Заслуженный деятель науки и техники РФ, член-корреспондент РАН Юсупов Рафаэль Мидхатович.
